SPIKE’s Deadliest Warrior

May 24, 2009

Have you ever wondered who would win in a standup war between a Viking and a Samurai or a John Woo-style gun battle between the Yakuza and Mafia?

I just finished the latest episode of SPIKE’s Deadliest Warrior, where two legendary fighters (Shaolin Monks vs. Maori Warriors) duel to the death.  For those who haven’t seen this show, basically each week, the show pits two of the most feared warriors against each other.  They use 21st century science and technology and world-class fighters and weapons experts to provide insight to determine who would win in a head-to-head final fight in the battlefield.  So far, they’ve shown battles between the Scandinavian Viking vs. Japanese Samurai, Ninja vs. Spartan, Green Beret vs. Spetznaz, Pirate vs. Knight, Yakuza vs. Mafia, and Apache Indian vs. Roman Gladiator.  They’ll have an episode on the Taliban vs. IRA.  I can’t wait for that one.

I remember sitting around with Corona longnecks with my buddies in college and BSing about who would win in a fight between Ali and Tyson, Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, Wolverine and Spiderman, etc.  Better yet, let’s throw them all in the ring for a Royal Rumble.  Now, this show has got me wondering who the deadliest warrior is if they could choose their favorite non-exploding weapon.  It’ll be the Japanese Samurai with the katana or the Shaolin Monk with the twin hooks.  Dude, what about the Spartan?  You see how messed this can get your head?  I’m glad this show straightens some of it out for me. =)

Okay, next episode is William Wallace vs. Shaka Zulu.  “Both fight for revenge. Both built an army to spill the blood of their enemies. Deadliest Warrior gets personal with a battle between two of the greatest warrior-generals that ever lived. William Wallace – claymore wielding wild man from Scotland versus Shaka Zulu whose ferocity, speed and toughness became legend.”  Who wins?  Let the arguments begin…

Dana White Sporting Affliction Gear

May 13, 2009

I thought it was hilarious when I saw these pictures of Dana White wearing an Affliction t-shirt.  White has been slamming Affliction for being a t-shirt company and not knowing how to put on an MMA event, but every Affliction event has been awesome to date.  All of their fights are matchups between legit fighters in their prime.  For instance, this was the Affliction – Day of Reckoning Fight Card:

  • Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski
  • Josh Barnett vs. Gilbert Yvel
  • Matt Lindland vs. Vitor Belfort
  • Renato Sobral vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
  • Chris Horodecki vs. Dan Lauzon

This is an amazing card; each fight could’ve been a featured fight.  Plus, Affliction is backed by some big names with deep pockets, such as Donald Trump and Oscar DelaHoya.  There’s enough room for UFC and Affliction.  With that said, I think White is great for the sport.  His passion for mixed martial arts is unmatched by anyone.

Gina Carano’s Maxim Photo Shoot

May 2, 2009

Check out these new photos of Gina “Conviction” Carano.  I’m glad they took these pics before a fight with Christiane “Cris Cyborg” Santos.  No other fight for Gina would make sense right now except for one versus Cyborg.  Hopefully, Strikeforce can pull something together.  Oh yea, by the way, here the pics.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson

May 2, 2009

I’ve been catching up on my reading and finally got to my October 2008 issue of Muscle & Fitness Magazine. I read an article on Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson; man, this dude is a true warrior. He overcame some obstacles in his young life, such as witnessing the death of his old brother at an early age by a drunk driver, losing his father to jail during his childhood, losing another brother the night before he was to workout at the NFL Combine before the draft, and growing up poor.

Adrian didn’t let his environment or circumstances dictate the man he was going to become. I am so impressed with how resilient and resourceful AD is. For instance, without money to buy traditional workout equipment, he used old water jugs he found lying around that he filled with sand or water, tied a rope to, and dragged on the ground behind him at a dead sprint. He also tied the jugs to both ends of a pole, put that pole on his back and did squats with it. He’s now one of best players in the league period.

Although, I’m a Niners fan, I can still appreciate that Adrian Peterson is a true warrior. My takeaway from this… man, I’ve got no more excuses.  I’m going to go outside right now and kick out five miles around the neighborhood.  Late, y’all.
